Cheadle Tourism Group

Background to group
Cheadle tourism started life in 2006 as a group brought together to deliver a tourism project, funded by a grant from Advantage West Midlands, which later became known as the Better Welcome Project. The group comprised a cross section of interested parties including local volunteers, businesses, local councillors, district council, historical society, arts and church representatives.

Better welcome Project
The first phase of the project, a historic trail in the town centre incorporating new branding, has been completed and a public launch was held in the town on June 12th 2010.

The second phase, new roadside welcome signs will be completed by August 2010.

Strategy
The tourism group has a strategy for long term improvements to the town and its tourism offer. Part of this strategy includes the marketing of the new brand "Discover the secret "and the colourful new brand colours.

Cheadle's Unique Selling Points
In addition to the marketing of the new brand ongoing promotion of its 3 unique selling points is considered to be crucial:

  • 'Pugin's Gem' St Giles RC Church
  • Cheadle the gateway to the Churnet Valley
  • The proximity of Cheadle to Alton towers and its millions of visitors

Future Plans
Cheadle Tourism is now a subgroup of Cheadle Business Group.
