Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth: ‘Towards a Common Future’- 12th March 2018
As promised, and following the great success of Processions in previous years, I would like to invite you and your school to take part, with The Cheadle Academy, in the Commonwealth Celebrations that are being organised by Cheadle Town Council together with TCA at Lulworth House, Cheadle Market Place, on Monday 12th March, 2018 at 10am on Commonwealth Day.
On what I am sure you will remember as a special occasion, The Commonwealth Affirmation will be read out before the raising of the Commonwealth Flag – along with the Charter of the Commonwealth. It would be particularly poignant if we could bring together young people from the locality, once again, to witness this event. This year is designated, ‘Towards a Common Future’; an extremely important theme to be further explored.
As in previous years, the proposed route that the flag and students will take and the Ceremony: Start 9.00 am The Cheadle Academy – 9.15am Cheadle Primary (where The Mayor will join the procession) – 9.25 am Bishop Rawle– 9.45 am Lulworth House. Outlying primary school partners from St Werburgh’s, The Valley, Dilhorne, Great Wood, and St. John ’s Wetley Rocks will join the Mayor’s Procession at Cheadle Primary, together with any other local organisations that will be joining us. I know that I am making assumptions/taking certain liberties here and again relying on the goodwill of Cheadle Primary, please do let me know if it won’t be convenient this year!
As students join the procession, each group of students will give to the next, a explaining the purpose of the event, thanking them for their participation and setting a challenge for participants to complete, following the event, in their own schools/academies/colleges.
On this special occasion, the flag will be carried by the students to Lulworth House. The Commonwealth Affirmation will be read out before the raising of the Commonwealth Flag. Cheadle Town Council will kindly host a Reception following the flag raising ceremony, at Lulworth House.
I know that you’ve all got this date in your diaries but I would be grateful if you could just confirm your attendance to me shortly. The Council will arrange for our police escort and the press will also be in attendance. Do let parents of children attending know that they are very welcome to come along and watch the Ceremony. Any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Very many thanks and I’m sure this will be a super procession.
